URBAN-ista

Will always be addicted to my weekly supplements - URBAN on thursday.

Just the week before, 20 Jul 2006, "T-EED OFF" features the trend in growing number of tshirt companies in Singapore. I didnt know Flesh Imp was as old as SIX years! Hahaha. No wonder it seems quite focused in this market. Am impressed by their tees but always feel like I could make them too , but a lousier quality lar (bleah :P). Wahahaha. And MeowMoo is so lucky lar. the founders are just like 19 year-olds only lar (Around my age!). Idiots. Start so early and earning so much le. Hahaha. Charge so much for one (one-colour print) tshirt sommore!

This issue is exciting!
27 July 2006 "UP MARKET". All about flea market in Singapore! Had always thot of selling my tees (if i successfully made them. Now busy with birthday presents, so will have to wait for new products. hahah) at flea markets - a stepping stone to promote my online blog shop if it's (again) successfully up. Below are a few quoted from the article:

MAAD (red dot design musuem)
*my first choice!
Every Sunday from 1100 to 1900.
crowds are mainly young artsy professionals and the stalls try to sell original products ( so I wont have to fight with 2nd hand tees (:! )

Lime Flea market (Opp YouthPark)
*my initial plan of starting up there
Every 2nd and 4th Sat of the month
Too bad there are qte alot who sells 2nd hand stuff.

Flea Day (undergrdmovement)
For fashionistas (sia!). Hahaha. Dont know how it's like.

Zouk Flea & Easy
Every 3 months on Sun afternoons. Next one in late Aug.
Again it's mostly 2nd hand clothes(think more ex ones. Wahahaha. Diff crowd mar.) Stated DIY crafts as well.

More news if I really gonna set up a stall kae. Remember to come and support can le. Hahaha.

In case you are curious why I only put up one flea market's picture, no bias here, just simply I couldnt find proper pictures for all others. Hahaha.

Happy Bday Yanzi!

Happy 28th Birthday Yanzi! (Post supposedly to be on 23rd Jul)May all your wishes come true and be joyous this coming year. Wishing for soaring album sales as well (zhuan ji da mai!).
Hahaha. Waited till after 12 to post this significant entry.
Below are just something inspired by her, my Almighty Superstar tian hou Stephanie. Not necessarily appearing on tee, because afraid that it might get into trouble with copyright. But nonetheless, it's just for the fun of it.

Original picture
(Leave album)

Inspired picture looks kinda awful. Actually had other concepts in mind but whatever lar. Just showing what I've done:

HotOnHeels

Was thinking about having the silhouette running from it's terrifying shadow. Will try to do it the next time and post it up..hahaha.

~best wishes.

p/s:

Just for laughs:- Bloopers

Hair extension gone wrong.

(Originally thought of having a running gal as a design, so had Yanzi as my template. Unfortunately it turns out really sucky. Like hair on fire. So yar, not laughing at Yanzi, in case fans planning a conspiracy on me or anyone mistaking my intentions.)

~Peace.

Easy Breezy?

Wow, I just clicked around and saw Venetia's friend having this blog selling accessories, ie necklaces, earrings, and it just looked so easy! She uploaded her pictures of the handmade accessories and tag on the price above it and literally just wait for business. And it seems like her blog was so hot that almost all, or maybe in fact all that I saw were all sold out! (Think she only did like one or two per accessory or something) It looks totally easy on her side. Was thinking back if this was how easy for my case, I'll be quite blessed. I cant possibly take orders for the tees and then only print after that right. And even if I had to print before hand, it'll be really expensive and not worth it to print in small quantities, like 20? She accepts cash only, so that's one good thing I can learn.. Hahaha. Con will be the tees wont be sold out of Singapore. But seriously, at this pace that I'm generating the designs , I'm really doubtful of my products and quality. It's hard to start up on one person only! Haiz..

Lost...? :P

Chatbox

New Chatbox added! Now you can just leave your comments about this blog and the tees designs. Woot Woot. Hahaha. Seriously, do leave your mark so that I'll know who visited myteeblog. If not it'll be kinda sad that I blog and no one actually go and view the photos I uploaded. Hahaha.

Yong Kwang was so excited after I told him about maybe setting up this blog shop kinda stuff last week (after reading URBAN, our mandatory weekly dose of supplement, on the online shops). He had the idea of setting up one himself as well, just that his will be selling all the "high-end expensive-looking, delicately-handmade" greeting cards. Did heard him mention bout this before, ever since he bragged about his great craft skills during some mini projects we did for brigade. Yong Kwang even thought that I should actually join him in this e-business venture, where he'll sell his expensive greeting cards alongside my tee business, under the same name/website. jinXpleant was what he came up with (jinxp + pleant. Pleant is his ugly blog. That's what he calls it anyway, not my choice of description). Sounds meaningless but has the Uberchic factor. Consumers will be actually thinking what is this particular odd-name company selling. Cool eh. Hahaha.

But just look at the schedule of this guy. 3 tuitees taking up almost all of his book out nights, driving lessons and tests coming along, how would he be able to manage the time to do anything else extra? So I guess I'll just keep it to that till anything good comes my way. At least I've got a chic company name. :)

Blog Shop

Woohoo. This is great! Kenny just offered to help me come up with a blog skin. Hahaha. Okay, I am too lazy to come up with the blogskin and I also dont know how to go about doing it (wanted to learn but no time lar). I'm anticipating the skin!!

I actually set up this blog in hope that when i manage to get the knowledge of e-commerce, maybe I can actually develop it into a blog shop... But I'm currently very very ill-prepared to venture on. I wont know how to charge when a person wish to purchase the tshirts, what type of payments ( I need help with online payment), how to go about printing, where to get good quality plain tshirts ( I need recommendations!), what paints to use, blah, blah, blah.. I've been thinking, but just dont really get the answers as yet.

Went on a roadtrip to hunt for printers last month with a camp mate, Edwin. Only managed to catch one that was opened (wasted my block leave day travelling to closed shops). Managed to get to chat with the shop manger who seemed experienced and friendly enough to tell me not to jump too quickly into this passion as he had seen quite a number of companies not lasting as long as expected. In fact when I wanted to set up the shop selling my tees, I've never thought of it been a long term project. I was thinking of getting some quick money during army. Others get to teach so many tuitees at one time and I'm waiting here like some sucker for the army to give me my allowance monthly. He kept asking about where I'll be situating my shop (never thought of setting physical shop, just some blog shop or a stall in flea market), what age-group/ people my designs are catered to(er.. teens my age?) and what are the designs like (Vector art? Silhouettes? Have been coming up with other ideas nowadays. So exciting. Hahaha..) Well, up till now, I haven't reply that manager regarding the printing. Just simply because I haven't come up with good designs yet.

Anyway have to thank Edwin for accompanying me around and been such a great help. Was at a total loss when the manager starts talking about the budget portion. Fyi, I cant do my simple money math.

Jing Wei made good comments on coming up with collections instead.. Hahaha. Am trying. Hopefully the designs will be out soon.

Had the above picture painted on a black tshirt, white graphics, red bandana. But think it did not stand out as expected. Upload it some other time. Also damaged one of my elder Sis's V-neck tee after the paint started to cracked, just after one wash. (Told you I havent experimented with paints yet. :P But it works totally well with my own tee!) I forbidded her to wear it out again though she did mentioned it looked kinda vintage-washed. Wahahaha, thanks for the effort. -__-

First Few Tees (Part 2)

The following are the designs I made for a local tshirt design competition for another popular HongKong franchise in Singapore. I aint gonna mention the company's name, as quite a few of my friends have already know that I'm kinda boycotting this brand of tees for the reason that my designs were not selected for the top 5! Only the top five tshirts get to win the prizes, which aint that attractive either. (No sour grapes here. Even Mr Lim also say the prize money looked miserable.)

Okay, I'm supposed to come up with design on a their simple, plain white tshirt to suit the theme "World Without Strangers". Guess most of you will know what brand is this by now. For others who haven't realise, where have you been all these while? Anyway, I came up with the idea myself. Even went on to make sacrifices to pose for my pictures, my younger sis was also kind enough to help, to get the stencils done. Btw, most of the tshirts are printed using stencils. Mind you, I'm living on a really tight budget here. It's not like some other finalists who actually got their designs printed by the professionals! They should be disqualified for cheating! (Okay, it wasnt stated that professional printing was discouraged. Damn those idiots!)

I even came up with my very own promotional photos lah! So much for the sacrifices. And I had to face the humiliation in front of my other camp mates and office colleagues as some of them saw the shot and set it as the desktop background on out I-Net! (Damn! Wahaha.) See how much I've put in and look at what I got back in return? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Kosong sia! Worst case was I couldn't get back that particular tshirt! (I only made one, so that's an extremely limited edition lar! It could have fetch a hell lot of price if I actually sell it in the market.)

And notice the name on the promotional poster. Translate it into Chinese. Makes total sense. Wahahaha. Just some intended pun.

First few tees (Part 1)

Alright, here are the first few tees which i started out with.

1st one is actually a polo tshirt which i helped to design for my ex-company, Braves, in my ex-unit, 40SAR. Unfortunately, I did not get a single tee as the OC placed the wrong order, thus lacking in number. Strange that I did not pursue this matter since the company t-shirt is actually designed by me! The high and mighty, simply irresistable, totally unimaginably gorgeous ME! Okay, I got carried away, but that was really kinda sad not to own a piece of tshirt I designed.

But I cant seem to find the soft copy of the designs. Guess I'll upload them the next time.
Links to the pictures at photobucket:-

They did not use this actually. Used some of the older simpler designs. Think the OC gave the wrong ones for printing. Haiz, so blur.

This one is the stripe tee. A relatively cheap striped tee which I bought from a HongKong franchise endorsed by Andy Lau. Got my inspiration from another tshirt which i chanced on at Bugis Junction but I thought it was rather overpriced. Also the first tee which I actually went into printing it myself. Went back to Secondary school and got some advice from Mr Richard Lim. And ever since has been printing quite a few pieces there. Thanks Mr Lim! Haha.

Getting Started

Finally, the first step in introducing my works, plans and processes of my tee designing and attempts to enter business with these designs. I know it's been really slow developing since initial ideas first generated like early this year, but nonetheless, still hope this thing can blossom and develop from here. Subsequently, photos of tees designed, promo photos/gimmicks, or just simply the designs will be put up for view. Just hoping it wont take very long to update this tee blog. Haha, since I havent been an avid blogger all these while, especially when spilling out secrets and providing with details of my daily life is not exactly my specialty or at least a habit. I'll feel very 'naked'. Not a great exhibitionist either. Hahaha.
